Sleep Better with Proper Sleeping Positions: Tips from Inner Health Chiropractic

Proper sleeping positions can help maintain a healthy spine and lead to a better quality of sleep. Dr. Kristina Jensen, of Inner Health Chiropractic, a practicing chiropractor for 25-plus years, offers a few tips.

Sleeping on one’s side in a fetal position or on the back with a neutral head position is ideal. The head should be level with the shoulders in either position. She recommends using a pillow the same height as the space between the base of the neck and the tip of the shoulder when sleeping on one’s side, and placing a pillow under the knees if sleeping on one’s back. For side sleepers, a pillow between the knees can help relieve sciatica pain and lower back tension.
